How Can I Afford a House?

I am fortunate enough to own my own family size house in London. It is nothing special, but I have realistic needs. I am never going to be a "power earner", I am never going to own a mansion, I just wanted a house I can bring up a couple of kids in - and that's what I got.

My new home has:
  • Driveway
  • Garden
  • No Shared Bedrooms
  • Study
  • Garage
  • Nice quiet, safe area with good transport links
Like I said, no mansion. But this is all I really want out of a house and is certainly more than previous generations of my family ever had.

How did I achieve this?

  • Am I rich? Not really, I have a "good" job but nothing extraordinary. I started on a low wage and worked hard, I will never be a massive earner.
  • Did I buy years ago when houses were "cheap"? Nope, 'friad not. I turned 30 in 2010. I bought my house just off one of the highest property peaks in history.
  • Did I get so far into debt I'll never pay off my mortgage? No, guess again! My mortgage is big, but it is manageable. It is fixed and I'm overpaying. Disaster aside (and shit happens!) I'll be mortgage free before I'm 50. Not bad, huh?
  • So my parents bought me the house? Nope, my folks have never given me a penny towards my house. Apart from some support at Uni I have never got anything from them.

So, with the above points considered, if I can still buy a house - so can you!

House Buyers

This blog was set up to encourage those who have the ambition of home ownership to go for it. If you are looking for excuses as to why your life is so shit then I'm afraid you won't find that here. There are plenty of other places for you to wallow in self pity. Go to the right site and you can join in the chorus of despair and hopelessness. You can bitch about student loans, poor job prospects, high house prices, etc.

Or you can keep reading and find out the truth.

Find out how we are all responsible for our own lives and it's up to you to take control. I can promise you Im nothing special, Im not even that bright. Yet I'm heading home from a job I enjoy to a large family home in an area I like living in.

So what do I know!
